Lakeville, Minnesota-based Imperial Platics, a plastics fabrication and fulfillment company specializing in custom injection plastics including assembly and retail packaging operations, has announced the shutdown of its Lakeville factory following its acquisition by Mundelein, Illinois-based Commercial Plastics in April, 2020. The layoff will affect 122 employees starting in February 2021.

Am I Next? Plant closure at Core Molding Technologies.

Columbus, Ohio-based Core Molding Technologies, a manufacturer of sheet molding compounds, and molds fiberglass reinforced plastics, has announced the closure of its Core Composites Cincinnati 108,000-square-foot manufacturing facility located in Batavia, Ohio and laying off 99 employees commencing in March 2021 and completed by December 2021.

According to a statement filed with the State of Ohio, "Due to changes in the business resulting from a customer’s relocation of production away from Ohio, the company will be carrying out a mass layoff regarding its employees at this location."

Am I Next? Layoffs at Precision Castparts — Business Downturn.


Portland, Oregon-based Precision Castparts, a manufacturer of high-tech aerospace, defense, and industrial castings and forged parts owned by Berkshire Hathaway, has announced 717 layoffs at two Portland, Oregon facilities.

The decision was driven by the downturn in the aviation and turbine-driven energy industry and Boeing's suspension of aircraft production.

Prior to the layoffs, a company spokesperson noted, "As the impact of the crisis and other macroeconomic factors have weighed on our nation, many of our customers have or intend to curtail or reduce their production for a period of time. Due to the resulting order reductions, we are announcing a temporary shutdown of our operations over the coming weeks to align our production with our customers’ needs.
