Boston, Massachusetts-based Starry, a fixed wireless technology developer, and internet service provider, has announced a major 50% reduction in force as part of a cost containment initiative that will also implement a freeze on hiring and non-essential expenditures.

The personnel reduction will impact 508 employees, including corporate, administrative, sales, marketing, engineering, manufacturing, and construction team members. 175 workers across three offices in Massachusetts were impacted, including fully-remote workers.

Starry CEO Chet Kanojia noted, “This is an extremely difficult economic climate and capital environment, and at present, we don’t have the capital to fund our rapid growth. Because of that, we’re focusing our energies on our core business: serving multi-tenant buildings in our existing dense urban markets."

He also noted that "aggressive" measures are needed to curtail the company's cash burn while the company pursues "strategic options." Code words indicating a potential sale, merger, or additional venture capital.

Blue Bell, Pennsylvania-based CoreDial, a cloud software and services provider of internet-based phone and messaging management platforms, has announced that it will reducing its headcout by laying off 62 employees on January 28, 2022.

It is believed that this reduction in force is the result of the company being acquired in November 2021, by New York, New York-based BCM ONE, a leader in supplying next-generation communications UCaaS (Unified Communications services.

This would be a normal and customary restructuring to eliminate redundancies in similar job functions.

Charlotte, North Carolina-based NTT America, a division of Tokyo, Japan-based Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation, a provider of telecommunication service, including voice, data, and internet communications solutions in North America, has announced that it will be laying off 151 employees at its Ballantyne office located in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The layoffs, including employees in accounting, billing, credit, and collections, inside client managers and specialists, and purchasing agents are scheduled during a two-week period commencing December 6, 2021.

According to a company spokesperson, “NTT is undergoing the next phase of our global transformation that will improve client centricity, employee experience, and operational efficiency. Additionally, this will allow NTT to continue to invest in new innovations across our IT services and infrastructure, networks, cloud and edge, all growth opportunities for the company, such as we recently rolled out private 5G network-as-a-service capability and data center builds throughout the world.”
